Childfree and Property Taxes

Kind of a thought-ramble from when I still paid property taxes.

I want as much of my property tax going to schools as possible. If **your** children are in a safe, educational school, then they are off of the streets and not hoodluming up my car, my home, or my neighborhoods.

Plus, when they get to be 16 or so, they’ll be able to accurately make change for my tall latte, and write down my order correctly onto my little paper cup. Someday, they’ll even make good employees, if they had a decent education that prepared them for college, or for vocational school.

And when I get old and even more crotchety and infirm, they’ll be capable not only of prescribing and administering medications without screwing them up and killing me, they might even be able to hold a conversation.

In short: even if it doesn’t directly benefit me and my non-existent children, I want my taxes to benefit other people’s kids, so they’ll leave me alone till they’re old enough to give me drugs.

  1. What a great viewpoint! I’ve always felt that way, too. Why shouldn’t ALL kids be as well educated as possible?? Well, but now I have kid(s), so I’m prejudiced.
