1st Day “On the Road”

JohnnyB here. So we’re her at our first stop, Hollister Hills OHVRA (Off-Highway Vehicle Recreational Area). Our first day on the road is more symbolic than anything. We wanted to have our going away party and drive off into the sunset. We were running so late that we pretty much did just that! So I got to drive the RV at night for the first time and, more significantly maneuver and park it in the campground in the dark. Additionally, it was the first day towing the Jeep. We had to disconnect the Jeep once to turn around when we went the wrong way (Note to self, get GPS immediately!) Our fancy tow bar makes that surprisingly quick and easy — a couple minutes at most. We also used the Jeep, heretofore also known as the “runabout” or the “dingy” to run up to my mom’s house in Soquel to visit her before leaving. Ever pull into a gas station with a 60ft long vehicle? I did — and then I saw that diesel was only available on the pumps on the *other* side of the gas station. Then I realized the station’s $50 credit card limit at the pump would require me to re-insert my card about 6 times to fill up! So I had to pay inside to avoid that. Well that’s about it. It was stressful with so much happening and then trying to get to Hollister, you know, before the next morning… but we made it!

PS: Alladin likes riding up in the windshield, blocking my right mirror. We need to convince him otherwise…

  1. Wow – you are already over an hour away and it seems like only a day has gone by since we said goodbye… One thought about Alladin – maybe you need to glue something bumpy in that spot on the dash so it woun’t be so ‘comfortable’ to sit on??
    Have a safe trip!

PS – any plan on posting a general outline of where you are planning to go? (in case we need to alert someone that the blog hasn’t been updated of course!!)
