January 2007: Book Reviews

This is an archive of my shorter book reviews and notes, which historically have been posted over at the 50 Book Challenge on LiveJournal, but which I’m starting to move over here. I’m posting them with altered date-stamps, but they might show up in my LiveJournal cross-post anyway. Bear with me, please.

Note: Many of these books also have full reviews available in the book review podcast (RSS).

For 2007, I will probably embark on a 100-book challenge, since I made it to the mid-80’s in 2006.

#1:

Third in the Stephanie Plum series, very entertaining. I’m glad there’s more than a dozen of these.

#2:

It wouldn’t be a new year if there wasn’t a dieting book on my bedside table. This one is good. Really, really good. It’s good because it really gives you the science behind metabolism and weigh loss/gain. Highly recommended.

#3:

A simple, silly romance novel set during the civil war between Empress Mathilda and King Stephen.

#4:

A dystopian novel about robots built perfectly to serve perfectly, but the result of their perfection is universal unhappiness.

#5:

Third in the Abhorsen trilogy, and the culmination of Lirael’s epic journey. Satisfying ending.

#6:

A typical Moore novel, with wild and crazy things happening all over the place. Highly reminiscent of “Anansi Boys” (by Neil Gaiman).
