This entry is not about my hair.
It’s about LiveJournal. LiveJournal currently has available for one week permanent accounts, costing $150. A permanent account on LiveJournal is an account that has “paid” status/features for life. Typically, paid accounts cost $25/year, though I worked as a support volunteer for a long time and had a lot of comp’ed paid time through there. In fact, my paid account only recently expired.
So I look at the permanent account issue and wonder if I should just go for it. It represents 6 years of paid time. It would not put me into a financial hardship, but there are many other things I could do with $150.
Plus, since I’ve moved over to another blog and am now just cross-posting into LiveJournal, do I even need any of the Paid Account features? Do I use them? I suppose my photo gallery over at LJ might be something to transfer over, but that would be all. I certainly haven’t run into any limitations from being a non-paid member.
So, what do you think? Please comment and let me know– should I buy a permanent account or not?
I’ll decide by this weekend.
[This was originally posted over at my LiveJournal, in a friends-only post. The comments there were very lively and helpful, but because the authors of the comments might not have said their remarks in public, I've chosen not to unlock that post, even though I'd like to share this post with the world now, so I am re-posting it here, for public display and consumption.]
Well, I just burnt a work-related bridge. One of my former colleagues has a tendency to forward every stupid thing she reads on the Internets. Much to my dismay, I have now learned that she’s a very, um, enthusiastic believer in Christ. Normally, I have no problem with Christians, as long as they don’t get in my face about it and aren’t intolerant asses to the rest of the world.
Well.
Um.
Yeah, I’ll let it speak for itself. I even re-created, as best I could, the insane formatting of this non-plain-text email when it arrived in my inbox. Complete with graphic attachment. My reply is below the original.

I’m working part-time as a dog-walker and pet-sitter. Yeah, it’s not super pay, but it’s also flexible work, time spent with various animals, and I get paid to go for a daily walk. That’s pretty cool, right there.
I’m trying to use a third-party RSS reader for my Friends page feeds, as well as all the other feeds I read in a day (really, there are only a couple hundred….) and what I find is that ’s most recent entries only show the title, while ’s appear with the title and the whole post. I use these two examples because they both had protected posts today (I’m using the “auth” flag to login and download their posts in my RSS reader). When I subscribed to both feeds (actually, all my friends’ feeds), I used the atom URL provided by LiveJournal.
Anyone know why this might be? I’m wondering if it’s just a matter of updating all the feeds for the first time, that the client hasn’t finished doing that or something.
The client in question is endo for Mac OSX.
You must all be having a field day with these….
