Reshared with permission from Vivian Spartacus, who ran a great game of Threadbare at Free RPG day and could use some hugs today.

Thank you so much, Vivian! Hope you feel better soon!

I’ve been sick for forever, so my posting has been less lately. The latest iteration is a stomach bug, but I’m eating my first hot food since Sunday, we we will see how it goes. God I hope I’m not sick for Magischola.

Anyway, my reason for posting is that I ran a game for Free RPG Game Day and, not uncoincidentally, it’s the same game I’ve been editing, Threadbare by Stephanie Bryant 🙂

This was actually my first time running it and it went super smoothly and was a lot of fun! I ran for three folks, none of whom had ever played a Powered by the Apocolypse game or many indie games generally. My player characters were:

Kate West – based on the real life toy owned by my friend Karyn – a plastic cow girl with a horse on wheels.

Mac – a Go-Bot who could turn from a robot into a truck, his problem was that he kept getting drawn into the great Transformers / Decepticons war, even though he wasn’t a Transformer.

Woolsworth – a varient on the Christmas Stocking type, this character was actually a promotional decoration for a department store.

The characters started out rushing through the wastelands (parking lot) of the aforementioned Transformers battleground, explosions all around them. Although Mac’s wheels broke half-way through, they managed to escape and get to their destination: Amusefunland! There they played Skee Ball against King Polar Bear, met the Samurai Pizza Engineering Cats, and rode the most dangerous ride in existence for a chance at the Mystery Prize!

Overall it went well and was very easy to run with little prep. I used the setting and NPCs from the book (I borrowed some NPCs from other parts of the book as well, such as Her Hey, a giant stuffed candy bar :), and I tweaked some things to suit my own nostalgia or to fit into the backstories of the player characters.

Threadbare should be out soon (I am going to go back to proofing now), so be sure to check it out!

Uber’s CEO is considering a 3-month leave of absence to help the company culture turn around. They also fired 20 people, including top managers, and one of his senior execs.

Like, I get that they want to distance the company from its toxic man-boy leader, but giving said leader a 3 month vacation isn’t exactly helping the women who were harassed right out of his company, nor does it help the victims of sexual assault from his drivers. Nor does it help the journalist whose privacy he invaded so he could personally harass her. Nor does it undo the illegal practice of showing ghost-cars in cities where Uber isn’t legal.

Like, why aren’t there criminal charges pending at this point?

I buy most of my clothes at the thrift store, so about once a year, I have to get the things that you just don’t buy used, like socks and underwear.

I didn’t feel like going out to the store today, so by Wednesday, Amazon will to bring me these, along with some other cute socks and bras that aren’t falling apart.
