#RPGaDay 8 – Favorite Appearance in Media

Most media do not “get it right” with RPGs, and it’s very, very hard to translate a role playing game into a movie, TV show, or even novel. RPGs are (or should be) an ensemble production, with lots of spotlight scenes on each character, and movies… aren’t. TV shows can do an ensemble better, but they don’t usually have the time to re-explain an RPG’s premise at the start of each episode.

But one movie series does RPGs really well. I’m speaking, of course, of The Gamers. By Dead Gentlemen Productions, the first movie captures the ridiculousness of a D&D group, while simultaneously breaking the fourth wall, repeatedly, and unapologetically.
