Day #6: Favorite RPG I Never Get to Play

#rpgaday

Day #6 is your favorite RPG that you never get to play. This one’s tough– I have a TON of games in my “queue” that I haven’t played, or I’ve played once.

I’d like to talk about two games that I’ve never played, but which I love: Maid RPG (where you play a maid in a manor) and Golden Sky Stories (you’re a henge animal-spirit in a pastoral village).

They’re similar in that they’re translated from Japanese games by Ryo Kamika, and republished for English-speaking audiences. They have a gentler idea of conflict. In Maid, the main drama of the session might be finding the very perfect eggs for the Master’s breakfast. In Golden Sky Stories, the heroes might be helping a human child cope with the loss of a security blanket.

The games are like slice-of-life anime, translated into an RPG. I don’t think GSS even has a combat mechanic, though Maid does. Maid is a sillier game– lots of random tables for what your maid uniform looks like, and whether you have special combat powers.

Of the two games, I like GSS better for the writing, but I adore anime maids and think Maid would be a particularly fun romp.
