A Business-related Blog

I subscribe to a few blogging and blog-business related blogs, like Copyblog and Problogger, but I don’t read them, because I find them…. I don’t know. A little too self-referential? Too much marketing? Something. They feel wrong.

The no-nonsense business-related blog I do read is the Trust Matters blog by Charles H. Green. It’s a blog about nurturing trust in a business relationship (or any relationship, but it’s written from a business perspective). It is, among other sources, part of my handbook for running Handknit Heroes . When Issue 3 was delayed, I want people to trust that we will deliver it. When I go to a convention, I want people to trust that when I say “well, let me just show it to you” that I’m thrilled if they buy it, but I’m also thrilled if they just learn the title of the comic book. While that’s genuine– in some respects, the first year of marketing is less about sales and more about developing the pitch and getting people to know that the words “comic book” and “knitters” belong together, trust is also a basis for continuing the relationship.

If I tell a friend about a product and say “it’s really good, and the people who make it are great folks,” that is much more likely to result in a sale than if that person sees an advertisement for it. This is why I don’t like ads on blog all that much, because it feels less like a genuine promotion and more like, well, paid advertising.

And I have no idea what category this post belongs in, but I hope you enjoy it and check out the blog. I have no stake in it, other than as a satisfied reader.
