Wow, wow, wow, wow.

On the way to Sock Summit, in the car, I knit. At the Ravelry party, I knitted. Before meals, i knit. I carry the project bag with me when I walk around, but of course I don’t always get to knit on it. The sock isn’t growing very fast– I only get a row or two done at a time. Nonetheless:

I’m almost at the heel. I’ve lost my tape measure (yes, both of them), so I’m using the other sock to determine when it’s time to turn the heel, and I’m pretty close to it, really.

Meanwhile, yesterday Stephanie Pearl-McPhee was in the booth next to mine, and directly across from me (singing a lovely rendition of Oh, Canada with the Canadian booths– it was so sweet!), and I was so busy trying not to hyperventilate hoping she might come over and say “wow– cool comic books!” that I completely failed to kinnear the Yarn Harlot.

This is why I need smarter, more level-headed people around me. In fact, that very reason is why, when I received the nicest, most wow-inducing email yesterday evening, I printed it out and gave it to John and said “I need your opinion.” Because, really, after reading it, I was overwhelmed with emotion, and honor, and just…. wow.

His response: “They didn’t confuse you with Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, did they?” He’s so right. But the momentum from that amazing moment carried me to the shower and gave me a second wind, enough to put on my ugly knee-socks and go out to the Ravelry party. Which was also awesome.

(That’s Amy Singer, from Knitty. And me, exhausted and a little star-struck, but really having a great time. And, um, my sock, poking into the frame a little.)

My birthday’s in a week, and of course I’ve had fun at the marketplace adding things to my wishlist, and bringing cards back to John to show him all the things I would get if I had unlimited resources of time (for knitting), money, and space. But John knows what I really care about, and  he’s offered to give me a present that only he can give me.

Another cabinet in the RV, dedicated to yarn and only yarn.

I love him so much.

Pictures of the Handknit Heroes booth are up on Flickr. There’s no possible way I can post them all here– we’ve been taking superhero pics all weekend. Go look. Enjoy. They are hilarious and fun and very, very wow.
