Thanks to The Tudors, I got some knitting done on my Smoking Hot Socks last night. I knitted the foot and heel on sock #1:

IMG_2913.JPG This heel is called a “Jojo heel,” and is apparently very popular in Germany. It’s a type of short row heel, but without the wrap-and-turn. I am not a fan, however. There’s a “double stitch” thing where you basically flip your stitch over the needle. I can get it just fine in one direction, but in the other direction, my tension isn’t right (I purl tighter than I knit), and the stitch won’t flip properly. I suppose if I worked on my purl tension, and made about 5 more pairs with JoJo heels, i would probably be fine with it. It is a clever heel, but I just don’t know if it’s for me.

Short row heels, in general, fit my feet like a glove.

Anyway, after I took the above pictures, I knitted some more, and this morning, my sock looks like this:

Yes, those are garter-stitch mitered squares, traipsing around the cuff. There’ll be 2 rows of those squares, then some ribbing to finish off the cuff. I expect to finish sock #1 tomorrow night.
