Fresno

JohnnyB here. Lots of stress involved these first few days. Partly this is due to not finishing everything before our departure date. Mostly though it is due to Camping World, Morgan Hill (see below).

On Sunday, we were in Hollister Hills OHV. I went wheeling with Dan and Mick from SC4WDC. My rig wasn’t really prepared, so I rode with Dan and Jackson up the canyon trail. Dan did a few three-wheelies and tried to climb Robin’s tree and Mick got hung up on a rock (actually a hunk of concrete debris). We stopped at lunch time and that was about it.

That afternoon the winds really kicked up on the ridge where we were parked. I don’t know for sure, but it was easily gusting near gale strength (nearly 40 mph). For example, a beer bottle on a level surface would blow over. Our satellite dish retreated to a stowed position because it could not stay locked due to the motion of the RV.

On Monday, we went to Morgan Hill and Camping World. That night we stayed in Gilroy. For those who don’t already know, my sense of smell is abnormally strong. Fortunately, I love garlic. Because, the air itself smelled constantly of garlic. I thought is was just the previous night’s cooking lingering. But when I went outside, the background smell of garlic was everywhere!

On Tuesday [today] we drove to Fresno. We’ll be here for 2 nights and get that aux braking system installed on Thursday. After that it’s up to Swamp Lake where we will work and play for about a week until the rest of the Santa Cruz 4-Wheel drive Club shows up on the 16th.

Rant to follow: Camping World, Morgan Hill Sucks: I know I’m repeating what Stephanie said about Camping World, but it’s worth repeating, just so this page will come up in Google and maybe I can save some other poor soul some time and aggravation. Simply put, the Camping World in Morgan Hill sucks! Do not go there if you can. When trying to schedule an install of an $800 piece of equipment that I bought from them: Twice the “computers were down” so they couldn’t schedule me, three more phone calls went unreturned, one phone call was hung up on because I was holding until the store closed! And when I eventually was standing in front of them in person, they laughed at me for asking for service this month! I called the Fresno store and the person who answered the phone was able to schedule our service appointment 2 days out. Already they are light years ahead of the Morgan Hill location.
