El gato!
09-Aug-06
So, last night Juan and I went grocery shopping at el mercado. Bought a bunch of comidas for the week. I brought 2 bags up to the kitchen and started putting them away, leaving Juan to go back down and bring up the 2 remaining bags from the car and close up the car and the front door.
We made a hasty dinner of beef tacos and The Simpsons, then settled in with the Spanish audio CD. After a while, Juan complained that he didn’t know how to spell any of these words, so I got out some notebooks and we worked on writing down all the words we’ve learned so far.
While sitting on the couch, I heard a door creaking, and thought it was odd, but then decided it was probably the cat opening some door elsewhere in the house, maybe the downstairs bathroom door (he’s been using the litterbox down there lately).
At about 10:30, we headed upstairs and went to bed.
While snuggling down for the night, I noticed a mosquito. Oh, no! A mosquito! I complained about this, not wanting to get bitten. Then we turned off the light and went to sleep.
Alladin didn’t wake us up in the middle of the night for snuggles. That was odd, but we thought nothing of it, being completely asleep.
In the morning, I got up and noticed that the cat had an unusual amount of dirt on him, even a couple of burrs in his fur. I thought perhaps Juan had left some of his gardening clothes around, picked the burrs out, and fed el gato.
Went downstairs. Over breakfast, we determined that I should find something that is supposed to be downstairs in the den. I went downstairs in my bathrobe to find and fetch it.
And saw that the front door was open.
Which explains the mosquito, the dirt on the cat, the absence of the cat last night, and the cool breeze in the house this morning.
Anyway, it seems el gato had a little adventure last night, went outside and did who-knows-what, and was back in time for breakfast, no worse for the trip. He is, however, going to the vet this week for his Program shot– no way am I letting him get fleas from this experience!
