Happy fish.

Cleaned the fish jars today– all the small, under 1 gallon containers that have single bettas in them.
In the “larger than 1 gallon” category, I have the ten gallon tanks, the 20 gallon girl tank (which I cleaned 2 days ago) and a single 2.5 gallon tank for a copper male. That one needs to be cleaned this weekend. The other 2.5 gallon most recently housed Carolan, my going-blind fish who passed away yesterday after being returned to me post-breeding-attempt. Something was definitely wrong, though– after he died and I was cleaning out the tank, I noticed a strong sulfur smell to the water. Water which had been clean and Melafix’ed just 5 days previous.
Meh. Anyway, I have put the purple plakat (currently named Gentian) in the breeding tank with a white/marble girl I got last week. I put him in there because he built a nest this week, but so far he hasn’t been impressed by the breeding tank setup enough to do so again. *sigh* I’m hoping that putting the girl in there might convince him to make a nest. Otherwise, I will take her out and do a water change to provoke him into nesting.
Today’s schedule is tentatively busy. There’s a Silicon Valley Aquarium Society meeting tonight that’s about bettas, which would be good to attend (and bring fishies to sell), but it’s at 7, and the auction tends to go on forever. Meanwhile, has her housewarming party today, and I’d like to go, but it’s at 2…. meh. I should just go to one and not the other– that would be clever.
