Back from the convention.
All but one of my female bettas is dead.
The last one is dying, probably be gone by the time I get home tonight. The fry look good, though.
I bought a stuffed dragon at the con. And a mask. And Chris named the dragon for me (Rita). We had many nice conversations about the prevalence of obesity and neuroses in fandom, which I think it what I was getting at with my previous post. The “not quite right” vibe was definitely there. There was one guy Sunday morning who I spoke to while he was setting up. He kept coming closer and closer, and every time he invaded my space, I took a little step back, which only made him come closer. One theme of his rant was how nobody was buying anything this year– um, perhaps because you creep the hell out of everyone who comes to your booth?
*sigh* Anyway. The rest of the con was good, of course, but I’m glad to be home.
Oh, and the big book recommendation of the weekend, the series that everyone is reading is Naomi Novik’s His Majesty’s Dragon (and others in the series), which is supposed to be very good. Of course all the booksellers at the con were sold out, so I have just ordered the whole series from Amazon. I also picked up several books this weekend, including my newest read, Elantris by Brandon Sanderson.

I mostly know about BayCon through my psychotic ex, who used to use it as an excuse to run around in cleavage-y clothing (and occasionally naked apart from a cloak, apparently) trying to seduce random guys. (At least from what I’ve been able to tell from her and others.)
In fact, courtesy of my automatic logging and ‘Spotlight’:
Psychotic Ex says “I ended up at a Creech party having mudslides and then trying to seduce Jesse :)”
Psychotic Ex says “Jesse, of course, was a perfect gentleman… wouldn’t do anything to me, even though I was crawling all over him… then I got sleepy and wanted [my sister]… so Jesse sent someone to find her while he held me… and she came back and I started crying all over her and she stroked my hair til I fell asleep.”
She made it all sound quite terrifying, and is probably a perfect example of what you’re talking about.

Yes. The drama quotient at cons is high, though usually only focused on a few key persons.

My psychotic ex has since moved away from California, so at least any drama won’t be being caused by her. I suspect that her new local con isn’t as tolerant of nutjobs, so she probably doesn’t go.
At the time, I was bitterly disappointed that I couldn’t go to BayCon with her, although now I’m quite glad - I probably would’ve never gone to another con in my /life/…

That sucks. I put the Novik book on my Wishlist so that I won’t forget it. I’ve got so many books stacked up right now that I can’t buy anymore right now.
