Vegas: STC Conference Day 1
08-May-06
So, yesterday was the first “official” day of the conference. It’s interesting. I can see already that I didn’t bring enough business cards, which is OK. I’ll use what I’ve got and just shrug when I run out, I suppose. ![]()
I woke up this morning at 5:45. Ugh. It took me a while to get moving as a result, but once I did, I got myself some coffee and took the bus down to a stop near the convention hotel, where I availed myself of a bagel and some milk.
I have one problem, in that I’m not quite sure what I want to get out of this conference. More work? Sure– I’ll need to gross about $2K to cover the conference costs (and taxes, of course). More education? Okay. To be honest, I don’t want to learn *too* much more. I’m already so damn diversified, I have a hard time focusing on one thing, one task, one skillset. Getting to the point where I can focus would be really, really keen. But at the same time, not locking myself into one particular area is crucial to survival as a freelancer.
Anyway. In unrelated news, I’m thinking of getting an Alphasmart, for making my date with myself to write (fiction). It would be nice to dedicate more time to fiction.
