Book Day!

John and I are going to start reading more. Monday night is now official Reading Night!

I’m so excited about this!

I didn’t realize just how much and how fast I read until people started pointing it out here. So far, I’m averaging a book a week for 2006 - I’m going to try and maintain that average throughout the entire year.

Books are fun; they’re my favorite addiction. Well, second favorite, but my favorite isn’t as easy to get as reading.

Do you ever read to each other?

Hildaur and I have read each other most of our individual favorite books, and now we’ve moved on to things that are new to both of us. Peter S. Beagle and Patricia McKillip reliably write stuff that makes great reading aloud. It can be slow going, though, waiting for times when we’re both available.

John doesn’t read. I mean, he reads stuff online, usually technical stuff, but he doesn’t read for fun. I tried reading to him when we were first dating, and in fact seduced him nicely with Boccaccio, but otherwise, my efforts at read-aloud fun have been unsuccessful.

To give you some idea, tonight we have already picked out the books we want to read. My selection: The Hero with a Thousand Faces. His: Your Money or Your Life.

I’m a member of the ; this is my 3rd year doing it. Each year I’ve increased how many books I’ve read, but I am WAY behind this year. I memorify my posts to the comm so I’ll know what books I read and to jog my memory later when I post book reviews to my audioblog.

I’ve heard of that community and just considered joining when you mentioned it here but I saw in their userinfo that someone gave away the ending to the last HP book soon after it came out, which seems like a good enough reason for me to stay out of that community.

I’m just keeping a shared journal () for the express purpose of writing down little memorials of all the books I’ve read so I can keep track that way. Hopefully I won’t accidentally post any more entries that should be in there to my personal journal, like I did with Lullaby.

Anyway, good luck on your goal to reach the fifty book challenge. I’m sure you’ll manage to reach it.

Yeah, it was a lame spoiler userpic someone had (everyone had). That’s actually kind of rare, though.

I don’t even have on my friends page– I just post to it, memorify it, and sometimes cruise around it for book suggestions. But I don’t read it regularly. I already have more than 50 books I haven’t read that I need or want to read this year.
