Fish update

So, as I mentioned last week, I got a small oto to clean up my tank of algae. He’s been doing a very good job of that, and I fed him an algae tablet yesterday.

I think Zoot ate quite a bit of the tablet, but whatever. It’s not going to hurt him, just clean him out.

They say that a pooping oto is a healthy oto. I looked in the tank last night and, yep. VERY healthy oto. My goodness! I guess he’ll be doing a great job of fertilizing the plants in there!

Speaking of plants, the Java fern has sprouted LIKE MAD! I have baby Java ferns in both of the baby bettas’ tanks, plus I pulled another one off and tied it to the same tank toy the original fern is on.

My anubias plant needs to be re-potted. It’s currently in the original pot it arrived in and the roots are bursting through the seams in the pot. I looked it up and it seems the anubias can be re-planted directly into the gravel or by tying it to a rock. Time to find a rock, I guess.

The babies are doing all right, though not growing quite as fast as I’d hoped. Their tanks need heaters, though– that’s about the only real problem going on right now. I have to leave the space heater on in my room during the day, or their tanks get cold. But the heaters for that size tank are about $20 each– not a whole lot, but… I haven’t gotten to it yet.

I also need to move the 10 gallon tank upstairs and start looking into hoods and such for it.
