Names Poll Result

Protagonist names:
Lily Maynard, Elizabeth, Eva, Violeta, Constance Quarters, Betty, Gretta, Lana, Deanna, Jennifer Wilson, Marcy, Elena, Michelle Simmons, Hilary Lott, Martha, Mary, Susan, Mabel
Common themes: “M” sounds and “E” sounds and “V” sounds. No, I will not call her “Mulva.” I will not be naming any of my characters after family members, either. Elaine is out– her name is in use in another novel. I’m thinking “Emma” with a V-sounding last name, perhaps “Evans,” which would also have some nice alliteration.
Emma Evans. I like it. Do you?
Villain names:
Nadya Gaynes, Amy, Blanche, Anastasia, Devina Del Marleigh, Rita, Raquel, Elizabeth, Lily, Miranda Jeffers, Bricola, Lyda, Annette Moreno, Helen(a), Diana
I notice a lot of “exotic” sounding names in this list, but I’m attracted especially to Raquel and Devina. Solely because I think “Raquel” is harder for most Americans to pronounce, I’m going with Devina.
Devina Del Marleigh. Her supervillain identity might be something like “Devine Dreamer” or something like that.
Male sidekick names:
Andrew Sanders, Austin, Jim, Robert (Bob), Matt, Steve, John Bast, Carey, Toby, Laurence, Stan,
Bob Coolidge, Thad, Jenx, Trevor Harvey, William Reed, Kevin, Mar{k,c}, Adam
Except for “Thad” and “Jenx,” these are mostly fairly ordinary names that one would find in any public school. I’m leaning toward “Harrison,” though, because this character is loosely based on Xander Harris from Buffy.
Adam Harrison Coolidge
Female Sidekick #1 (the medium):
Connie Lance, Brianna, Skip, Pip, Amy, Jennifer, Poppy Plumsong, Annie, Claire, Dweezle, Rona, Beth Harris, Charlotte, Thera, Francesca Delaria, Tracey Wong, Christine, Andrea
A lot of “C” names in there, huh?
Connie Markowicz (last name stolen from next names list)
Female Sidekick #2 (the plump girl):
Beth Meyers, Barbie, Sheila, Cheryl, Paula, Cherie, Katherine, Becky, Cathy, Meredith, Stacye, Amy Markowicz, Cynda, Chellie, Jessica Maguire, Yvonne Johnson, Allison, Annie
I see a lot of “B”’s in here, which I can only assume means you all saw her as “Big and Beautiful.”
Barb Meyers and her parents, in a senseless act of cruelty, call her Barbie all the time.
Female Sidekick #3 (the ghost):
Anne Warren, Rachel, Deedee, Paula, Carol, Rebecca, Maggie, Sue, Paula, Eve, Laura, Donovan O’Neill, Beth, Manda, Lindsey Sharpe, Brooke Atwood, Andrea (what, I like the name. ^^), Rachel, Julia
I see two votes for a Rachel with this one, and I’m good with it.
Rachel (I’m taking nominations for a last name on this one)
hair sucking. Nail biting. Open eyed sneezing, bites her nails, “Poppy” is a genius, graduated high school at 14-15, shy cranky indecisive smitten, obsessive devotion to a boy band, someone who’s obsessed with what time it is. One of the sidekicks loves bubble baths, Villain might have a penchant for gardening, just to be a little iconoclastic
Man, you people like the trichotillomania, don’t you?
some mention of the black bunny from Watership down, in comedic parody, The Bunny’s name is Herbert, Hasenpfeffer! (huh?), A bunny dressed up in clothes but then eats them. Large bunny who intimidates cats and small children., bounce bounce bounce, Dream sequence, perhaps the gardening villain has one that she feeds religiously.
has now made it mandatory that I read Watership Down before Nov. 1.
