Hi.

Things from this weekend:

I got a few things done on my to-do list. I suck and still need to do a few more.

Last night I had the gamers over to create characters for my Freeport game. Basically, this is the intermission game, due to the fact that our DM has a job now and can’t run games until his schedule turns into something sane. Heh.

To set the mood for Freeport, we watched Pirates of the Caribbean. Pirates! Arr! Very enjoyable, and really set the mood for the upcoming game, I think. It also helped me to explain to everyone what kinds of things they can expect in the campaign.

The players played right into my hands by coming up with backgrounds and character ideas that I can definitely work with. Muahahahahah!

John is the best husband in the world and washed my car yesterday without me asking him to, and then made dinner. Smooch!!!

Um. I should have more substantial things to say, but right now, I’m just really tired and want to sleep. No rest for the wicked, though.

This is a dream I had the other night

This is a dream I had on Friday, I think.

I was a vampire/demon, Hell’s equivalent of an angel, doing the Master’s work here on Earth. I was working for a guy who was bound and determined to bring about Hell’s reign on Earth. Good stuff, important work, etc. This guy, we can call him “Marvin” even though he didn’t have a name in the dream, was a real psycho, as one would expect of any human disciple of Pure Evil.

As for myself, I was actually, if such can be believed, a pretty decent demon. I mean, I was all for Hell on Earth, rah rah rah, but when push comes to shove, I really only wanted to collect souls that were already evil. Corrupting the good and innocent seems like a lot of work, when most people will corrupt themselves for you anyway, and those who won’t aren’t worth any more or any less than those who will.

Marvin was a little more, um, “missionary” in his drive to corrupt people, so he pretty much didn’t care if someone was doing the work themselves or not– he did his best to spread evil wherever he went. But also, this was a difference between Marvin, ordinary human, and me, supernaturally infernal being with a view of the big picture.

At one point, Marvin had a group of guests over for some reason that did not have much to do with bringing Hell to Earth. They wanted a tour of the house. I gave them one, but neglected to show them Marvin’s “office,” which was also my office, and also the portal to Hell itself.

Well, someone in the group asked where my office was, and I smiled slyly and said “oh, it’s through *that* door” pointing to the big, black door with all the eldritch runes carved on it.

So naturally, they wanted to see it.

Just as I started up the stairs with these sheeple, the Master arrived. And when I say “Master,” I do not mean Marvin, the ordinary human here to corrupt. I mean the A-1, Dark Lord Numero Uno, El Diablo himself, “the MASTER.”

I fell all over myself fawning over him, trying to please. Suddenly, Marvin’s guests became *his* guests, as it was revealed to everyone that Marvin was just a frontman for the Master.

First, I tried to offer the Master some sex, but he wasn’t all that interested. I was slightly hurt– after all, I’d been working with this low-man Marvin for so long, I felt there ought to be some reward for it, or at least recognition. The Master first had me serve drinks and be a nice hostess to the guests, and then, after the guests were comfortable, he drew me aside and told me I’d been a very good servant, and he had work for me to do.

[This part was influenced by The Eyre Affair.] The work involved entering the Bible and destroying certain passages that a small group of heroic humans were trying to salvage. These passages essentially meant the difference between there being a Master or not, so it was in my self interest to ensure they were preserved.

Without going into too many details, I succeeded. I went into the Bible and tracked the would-be heroes down and took their Bibles from them. Hey, I didn’t need to kill them, just stop them.

Don’t remember all of the rest of the dream, just the enormous, cavernous ballroom in the house Marvin lived in, the poolside patio, the abject submission to the Master once he arrived. Strong impressions that stayed with me all weekend.

John’s remark when I mumbled something to him about this dream: “Cukoo, cukoo…”

New bachelor pad

Hopefully, this will be the last fish-obsessed entry for a while.

Zoot moved into his new 5 gallon bachelor pad this evening, after I spent a goodly amount of time doing a partial (3 out of 5 gallons) water change to reduce the pH to something a betta can actually survive in.

His first act in his new home has been to hide in the corner near the bottom. That was also his second act. :) He did eventually cruise up to the topfor some air, and then again for a pellet of food, but mostly, I think he’s a little freaked out by all the space right now.

I also went to a California Betta Club meeting today in Milpitas. Quite enjoyable, met many nice people (hi, !) and learned about the betta club and what they’re doing, etc. Also met some very nice puppy dogs, a couple of interesting parakeets, a barrel of betta fry, and a couple of smaller bettas who were in the auction (I did not buy any, obviously).

It was really neat, especially talking to other betta enthusiasts. Some breed their bettas, some don’t– most folks there had quite a few bettas at home.

Zoot: Friday

Zoot on Friday Zoot on Friday
If you closely compare this to yesterday’s picture, you can see that the split in his tail is actually a little bit more healed, and the split in his anal fin (the one on the bottom) is similarly more closed up. It’s now healed up to the edge of the brownish area (where his “aging” coloration ends and his turquoise begins).

I added Melafix last night with no partial water change.
