I had a hard time picking between astronomy and California history, but I think it’s really important to have a deep understanding of where you come from and/or where you’re living.
I’m commenting only on this because I feel several may be a good choice for you.
Top choice is Japs I, but going in line with your career, it sounds like you may want to branch off. I would go with Intro to filmmaking, then next semester, hit writing for film. The background in Into might help you turn out a better product in SfF.
Languages open the world, in my opinion. Since you suggested Japanese - go for it. I would say any one you get a chance to use, at least sometimes. All else seems fun, too, of course - except Yoga, probably… ;-P.
Japanese would be nifty but i’m a bit biased so I voted for Cali. history cause sometimes you can learn interesting tidbits out of those kind of classes.
this is assuming of course they don’t offer courses in pikaology.

Which would fit the bill for either– astronomy being a study of where you come from in a more universal sense.

No, although they do have courses in Pop Culture, so one could, in fact, take a course and focus one’s studies around pikas.
