Or any other knowledgeable animal-workers or Louisianites.

I have $30 sitting in PayPal from the July “my cat was on fire” debacle. It is earmarked for an appropriate animal charity.

So.

Hurricane Katrina can’t have been good for some animals.

Where does one donate $$ to be used specifically for animal evacuations/treatment/rehoming in a disaster?

Thanks in advance!

I would check with the local human society in New Orleans, or one of the smaller towns in Mississippi. There’s also a zoo in downtown NO, I think they attempted to evacuate as many of the animals as possible though.

D’oh, saw this earlier but was out with the dogs and on my phone — can’t comment from my phone for whatever reason, haven’t figured it out.

I definitely second Noah’s Wish — they’re explicitly dedicated to disaster relief for animals, were there to help during the tsunami, and had people (local volunteers trained by them) in NOLA before Katrina even hit — one story I heard coming out of there was a woman in the parking lot of the Superdome, who wasn’t allowed in because she had her birds with her. The Noah’s Wish volunteer found her there at like 2 in the morning and was able to take her birds to safety so the woman could go into the Superdome to shelter. Their full disaster response team is en route today, and they expect to have brought in 100+ people by Friday.
