And another one….

I need to officially acknowledge this as a recurring dream.

See, previously, I had had only two recurring dreams, aside from the standard anxiety-dreams of showing up to school naked the day of the test and you don’t even know where the classroom is. One was my sister killing me (shudder), and the other had to do with blue aliens flying over Chicago. In both cases, the recurrance was rare, but separated by years, enough that they weren’t representative of one specific issue (though the one with my sister could be lifelong issues).

But this one…. this one is just plain bizarre. It’s never the same every time, but there is one specific image that recurs, over and over again.

Water. As in, a wall of it, coming towards me, barely held back by whatever barrier is as the shoreline, and certain to break through at any second.

Examples:
I dreamed about being a cave-dweller when the ocean would come in and break apart our community, yet still striving against it.

I have dreamed about being in Illinois and the Lake was about to break the rocks at the shore.

And last night:
I was a marine scientist working at a lab or aquarium. The facility had a public area as well as private research areas, including at least one that was 100% safe from tidal forces. As in, you could hit it with a tsunami wave and it would just sit there. It could suddenly be buried in 100′ of water and still be there. It was a mini-rock, so to speak.

Anyway, it was late at night. One of the observation labs on the ocean-side of the facility was dark, everyone having gone home for the evening, but there were bright lights shining in from boats on the water. My ex-husband, “Jeff” (or was it “Max”?) was kind of a stalker, and I, being somewhat obtuse, had not yet connected some of the odd things that had been happening with him possibly returning. Thus, I didn’t realize that one of the lights was actually a bright camera flash bulb, permanently on, and that he was using the glare from it to hide and take photos of me. I checked on the lab, and was heading out when I finally saw him there.

We talked for a minute or so, and then he said something to the effect of him having done something to the river. [At this point, the ocean was a river, not an ocean.] Realizing that he had dammed it, I looked up at the water and saw that it was rising. It broke through the lab windows easily (floor-to-ceiling windows), and nearly drowned me in chilly water.

The rest of the dream involved me racing to get people out of the facility and away. I stopped to dip in the hot spring pool and get warm again. The pool had hundreds of species in it, including I remember a 6″ long brontosaurus.

Eventually, the water was so high, it was topping a 50′ wall next to the facility parking lot. I could see people who had been out in the water– boaters, swimmers, and SCUBA divers– making their way towards an area that was sure to break first. I screamed at everyone to RUN NOW! but people continued to walk unhurriedly, as if they were in a drill, not a real emergency.

I woke up shortly after that. But I still wonder why I keep having these dreams about walls of water.
