Zoot’s anniversary was Saturday. I’ve had him for 1 year. [For those who weren't here last year, Zoot is my betta fish on my desk at work.]
In “celebration,” I accidentally forgot to remove his mirror Friday night when I left, so he’s had “company” all weekend long. Whoops. [The mirror trick is good exercise, but can be stressful for bettas after more than 20 minutes....] He seems to be okay, a little tired, though, and there are no bubble nests in his tank this morning.
This weekend, John and I went to Napa for a party, went shopping in Chinatown, stayed at my brother’s house and visited with some of his old friends as well as his boyfriend, then went to the baptism on Sunday morning. The service was interesting… Episcopalean service, and the reverend’s homily was really good– it reminded me of in it’s more modern impression of religion and spirituality. Sunday was Pentecost, so the reverend addressed some of the traditional Pentecostal messages and how they can be interpreted in the modern world. Interesting stuff. Kind of weird to see my friend Ken embracing religion again, but meh. I think he’s doing it for more of the right reasons this time, anyway.
Came home exhausted yesterday afternoon. John actually got sick from exhaustion and dehydration, and I made him lay down for a nap (he got dizzy). We chilled out and napped for a while, then got up to have popcorn and Simpsons finales for dinner. While we watched TV, I taught myself to knit– nothing spectacular, just casting on and the knit stitch; I can see I’ll need a friend to show me how to purl, since my little booklet from 1959 didn’t have illustrations for purling and the instruction text didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Also figured out how to fix the pants I’ve been sewing– they’re too long in the crotch, so I need to take them up. Unfortunately, they have pockets, and I’m basically going to sacrifice the pockets and remove them for the sake of having more alterable pants (I’d like to be able to keep taking these in until I’m down to about a size 14, which will be a while, I suspect).
Brought my laptop to work today so I can work on the Witches novel during lunch. Wish me luck in that regard…. I want to be ready for a BIAW push in June, time permitting.
