Meh. It’ll have to do for now.

I printed to PDF and copy/pasted the text into the file I needed. The worst part about all this is that I was trying to transfer a file from my Mac to my Mac, but the copy/paste doesn’t work between Broken X11 and Panther.

Le sigh.

Anyway, got what I needed to get for now. All is well enough with the world.

From the “technology can suck my left one” department….

Since trying to download off of the cell phone was a bust, and there are no free WiFis in Milpitas, I tried to burn a CD-R of my files and transfer thusly.

I made sure to check the “burn this so it’ll play in a Mac” checkbox when I finalized the CD. Files show up fine on the other Windows machine.

The Mac can’t even see the fucking disk.

Whatever. I’ve decided that technology can suck my dick, that Windows is the worst piece of shit ever expelled from an orifice, and I really really hate it when technology doesn’t work.

Fun with Files

So far, the only casualty in my migration to OSX 10.3 is OpenOffice.org, which doesn’t work very well in the new environment (the windows don’t open 100% on-screen and I can’t move them, so opening and saving files is a bitch).

So I’m currently downloading the new version, but since I have no internet for the laptop at work, I’m using my cell phone to connect. The file is 115 MB (larger than my USB keychain), so it’ll take a while. The other option is to borrow the CD-R burner and burn a CD of the .dmg file and install it that way. Probably faster, but requires me to borrow the CD-R burner.

I’ve been listening to Sammy’s Hill during my commute– a quirky Washington D.C. novel. And reading One Hundred Years of Solitude before bed at night. In a classic example of “my head cannot retain numbers,” I keep thinking it’s One Thousand Years of Solitude. Ah, well. Hundred, thousand– it’s only a power of ten. Astronomically speaking, that’s barely a blip, right?

Just checked the download. It’ll take 10 hours to complete by cell phone. I think I’ll suck it up and borrow the CD-R.

Just got an email from amazon.com

Explaining the policies relating to super saver shipping and backordered items, but telling me they’ll make a one-time exception for this order.

Thank you, Amazon. That’s what I wanted to hear.

Should ship by tomorrow at the latest.
