Babies and Internet
05-Apr-05
I went up to San Francisco last night to visit Ken and Jill and the baby, who they’re naming Owen, not Evan. Owen. With an O. Not Pwen. OWEN.
Anyway, he’s small. And he was sleepy when I held him. Very nice. He’s a total mama’s boy, and there’s this…. look on Jill’s face, I can’t describe it. It’s the look of motherhood, I guess.
We took Highway 1 home, basically the long way home, and stopped in Half Moon Bay for dinner at a brewery. Which got us talking about small breweries and such as a business venture. Eeep.
In the car in the dark, I worked on the baby blanket for Owen. I got another row and a half done before I realized I’d made a mistake and had to pull out about 300 stitches. Ironically, the mistake was done while it was still light out…. sigh. I pulled them out and re-did them last night, but if I hadn’t made the mistake, the blanket would be very close to finished by now.
After we got home, I checked the internet, which should have turned on yesterday. No internet. John called tech support and was told “Oh, my computer just went blank.” Twice. So he asked to be escalated to the next tier in tech support. It turns out, Pac Bell, not wanting to actually let people have an easy time with their Internet access, changed to something called “Sticky IP” for static IP addresses, and configuring “Sticky IP” for our DSL modem, since it’s not one that Pac Bell sells, will be…. tricky IP instead of sticky, I guess.
Have I mentioned lately that what I would really like is an ISP who just sticks to standards and stops pulling all this proprietary shit out of their assholes?
