Happy Birthday

I remember my grandfather today.

I know, it’s lame and awful to celebrate the birthday of a dead man. The first year after he died, we tried to do so, but it was so painful and awful, my family decided right then and there to not do that any more.

And yet, nowadays, when Feb. 11th comes around, I find myself thinking of him fondly, with the kind of pain-free memory that one should have for someone very special in your life.

Also, not to overlook anyone, Happy Anniversary to and . You two are not so much lucky to have one another, because that would imply you had little to do with it. But you are one of the more successful, happy couples I know, and I am proud to call you my friends.

Is the answer different if you’re in a city park, not the woods?
Is the answer different if you’re carrying backpacks?
