The blood drive was at the Ben Lomond fire station, and the doors were left open all morning, so it was COLD. Also, I wish I’d known in advance– they were serving breakfast to donors! Got a t-shirt, bled into a bad for about 10 minutes. A great way to end the year, honestly.
Edit to add: My replacement iPod arrived today. It has now updated and gotten all my songs off the server, and is now charging on my desk.
I am making John crazy by randomly saying “Boobies” when he least expects it. Go boobies!
This is an archive of my shorter book reviews and notes, which historically have been posted over at the 50 Book Challenge on LiveJournal, but which I’m starting to move over here. I’m posting them with altered date-stamps, but they might show up in my LiveJournal cross-post anyway. Bear with me, please.
Note: Many of these books also have full reviews available in the book review podcast (RSS).

Wizards arrived in the mail today. I ordered it with my amazon.com gift certificate. What boggles my mind is that I had it on pre-order in May and it never ended up being bought. Weird.
Anyway, I have it now. Wonder if I should watch it for New Year’s Eve…. That would be spiffy.
And, of course, I think I will need to make a Fritz icon.
I cleaned the carpet in the hallway and living room today. Thanks, Hammer. But at least I got to try out the new carpet shampooer– it works, yey.
Had sushi lunch with John– very nice. Yum!
Stopped at the animal shelter again. Only 2 of the adolescent kitties left– “Jill” who was very sweet and sociable, but has a “no dogs” tag on her crate, and “Josh” who was very intent on getting his litterbox litter to pile up properly so he could use it. I went to the front desk and said “I’d like to meet Josh” and the gal at the desk looked him up and said “Oh, sorry– he has an owner hold on him.” Apparently, Josh’s owner is having second thoughts and, while he probably won’t return to his previous owner, he may be legally embroiled for a little while. I was told to check back tomorrow, but when I pointed out that tomorrow they’re closed, she revised that to Sunday.
Watsonville shelter’s web listings have many more kittens and adolescents, but it’s a bit of a drive to take with a new kitten who can get stressed out easily. Perhaps on Sunday if things aren’t going well at the SV shelter, we’ll drive down to Watsonville to “browse.”
I still need to kittenproof the house. I think I will do this one room at a time. Sigh. My room needs it the most, but will be the most work, of course. The kitten-room for moving-in/transition will probably end up being the guest bathroom, as it’s small and easy to confine. We’ll put a couple of boxes in there to serve as hidey-holes, and take everything out from underneath the sink (there’s a gaping hole in the under-sink cabinet, perfect for a kitten to play through).
And now, I think it’s time for a long, hot bath.
