Wish List
OK, my official holiday wish list is here.
For purposes of this post, here are the 10 things I want the very most:
1. I want my mother to quit smoking. If you’re not my mom, but you smoke too and want to give me a gift, you can quit too. The less cigarette smoke in the world, the better.
2. I want a new bread machine– a very specific model that makes just a little loaf in under an hour.
3. I want more time to spend with my husband and my dog and my writing.
4. I want The Time Traveler’s Wife, and will download it from Audible if I don’t get it for XMas.
5. I want a job in Santa Cruz County that pays enough to cover my current salary.
6. I want to feel appreciated at work.
7. I want everyone I made presents for to be overwhelmed by their gifts this year. I worked really hard on those, they took a lot of time and planning, and I started working on them in July.
8. I want to change the world. If you do, too, you can donate to the ACLU as a gift to me for the holidays.
9. I want my sister to get a day off. Actually, I want her to just get more support at home in general.
10. I want a kitten.

Kind of a hard gift to give someone else, but you should go adopt one from the SPCA if you want one. Be sure to consider how well Hammer gets along with cats though before you do. It’s certainly possible for cats and dogs to get along, but it is definitely something to think about before getting the kitten.

Didn’t even notice this one until just now. I suppose that’s what I get for skimming your entry. I just thought I’d comment that this is a great wish - I agree, the less cigarette smoke in the world, the better.

Santa Cruz SPCA doesn’t have custody of county-seized (per animal control) animals anymore, not since they embezzled funds and had the most draconian adoption criteria ever. Some of the requirements they would tell people: can’t be willing to declaw your cats (ok, fine, except that some people have genuine reasons for declawing), must spay/neuter (no problem with this one, actually), must not let adopted cat outside (uh, what?), must not have another cat when you adopt one from the SPCA (huh?), etc. etc. etc. They basically had arbitrary rules for preventing adoptions, but the real straw came when the embezzlement scandal broke.
So, now the county’s animal services is another department with the county, and they have a shelter here in Scotts Valley.
