The US Mint has issued a warning against the “Freedom Tower” commemorative coins, which are supposedly minted from metal from Ground Zero.
John and I saw an ad for these coins this weekend, and I thought “well, there’s a way to exploit tragedy.”
Forgive me if I’m wrong, though, but isn’t it illegal to take anything from Ground Zero? Being that GZ is still a crimescene? And if it’s not illegal, isn’t it at least immoral on the same level as grave-robbing?
I don’t like the proposed design of “Freedom Tower” (the replacement high-rise for the World Trade Center towers), and I certainly wouldn’t buy it on a coin. But I hope that anyone who does like it enough to grace their home with it will consider not spending $20 (a $49.99 value!) on a $1 (non-U.S.) coin that’s basically tacky touristy crap designed to exploit nostalgia and sadness.
Things are…. heating up, politically, here on LiveJournal. I have a few very intelligent people on my Friends list with whom I disagree politically. I also have a few people who really couldn’t care less about American politics. I like all my LJ Friends and value them greatly. I love reading everyone’s opinions on politics, but I know that not everyone loves reading mine. Plus, I don’t want to lose any friends over politics.
Thus, I am instituting a policy as of today that all partisan political posts in my LiveJournal will be lj-cut and marked as “Political” in the lj-cut link until November 3rd. If you don’t want to bother with my politics, you don’t have to click the link.
Non-partisan political chat (generally having to do with when/where/how to vote, and election supervisor-related stuff) will not be lj-cut. Just places where I tread over the line into political opinion/criticism. As my guideline, if I don’t think it would be appropriate to say it in a polling place, it’ll be behind a lj-cut.
I don’t usually pinp my eBay stuff in my journal, but I’m hoping some folks will spread the word to the various fan communities.
I have Xena action figures for sale (also, a Buffy Angel action fig) on eBay. They’re new, unopened, and all proceeds go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. No reserve, and FREE SHIPPING. Yes. Shipping was donated, so it’s free, but only available in the U.S.
Please let your fan friends know about it. You can get a collectible action figure and fight cancer all at the same time!
