Now I’ve done it
I made a custom filter for “Default View.” Basically, I need to not read a whole lot of journals between now and October 3rd (the marathon). If I’m not reading you, it’s not because I don’t care; it’s because there are only 24 hours in a day, and I have to sleep for 8 of them, workout for 1, work for 8, and drive for 2. It doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for fun stuff.
I never wanted to make a DV, and only do it for times when I’m really busy, like right now and in November (NaNoWriMo), when I use my NaNoWriMo filter as my friends page and don’t use a Default View at all. I plan to remove the Default View in early October. Anyone I’m not reading next month is always welcome to post a comment if there’s something you really need me to know about.

How will we know for sure if you’re not reading?

If you don’t know, visit http://www.livejournal.com/users/mortaine/friends. The Default View shows posts of anyone in the filter on my default /friends/ page.
And yes, you are on the filter. Silly girl.

If it’s something really URGENT and you mention my username (”HEy, Mortaine! Help!” for instance) and I don’t comment back within 8 hours, I probably haven’t read it.
Or you can visit my Friends page and see if you’re on there. The Default View replaces the Friends page with just entries from those who are in the filter.

Ah, there I am. I’m glad to know you find me interesting enough to keep in your default view. I never can tell. I can’t blame you for having one, you sure do have a lot of entries on your friends list.

I thought Default View only shows up like that for the person whose Default view it is?

Don’t blame you. There are people on my friends list whose journals I don’t read, for whatever reason, but I want them to be able to read mine… one person in particular has a fondness for MARQUEE tags, as I can’t read her journal, as those give me a headache. I’m going to have to hurt whoever on Firefox’s dev team thought supporting them would be the Right Thing… it’s clearly the Wrong Thing, like supporting BLINK tags…

I use a Default View to separate my friends from the communities. I use other groups for the sewing and knitting/crochet communities.
Good luck with the marathon prep!!

Since I don’t know if you’re reading or not, I’ll give you the news before anyone else gets it: Grandma’s in a nursing home by the end of the week.
