August 2004: Book Reviews

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

This is an archive of my shorter book reviews and notes, which historically have been posted over at the 50 Book Challenge on LiveJournal, but which I’m starting to move over here. I’m posting them with altered date-stamps, but they might show up in my LiveJournal cross-post anyway. Bear with me, please.

Note: Many of these books also have full reviews available in the book review podcast (RSS).

Mmmmm… beeer

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

I had 2 beers with dinner. I am what can be classified as “high.” Spritely. Drunk.

Which has led to “sloppy/slutty Steph” but not quite to “Professor Steph.” I did post some witty comments to ircimages.com (not worksafe).

I have decided on a new word: brainwidth. It’s bandwidth in your brain. Not much use in conversation except when you don’t have much of it (ex: “I haven’t slept in 4 days, so I don’t have much brainwidth to learn to crochet, Steph” or “I ran 18 miles today, so don’t expect much brainwidth for following verbal directions, k?”)

Oh, hey. look– there’s an unposted entry! Yep…. drunk.

I read/finished Callahan Touch today. Yay for fun reading!

Memesheep!

1. Comment to this entry with a post you think would be totally out of character for me - something I’d never talk about, never discuss, never say, anything. It has to be completely out of character.

2. Post this in your own journal.

Now I’ve done it

I made a custom filter for “Default View.” Basically, I need to not read a whole lot of journals between now and October 3rd (the marathon). If I’m not reading you, it’s not because I don’t care; it’s because there are only 24 hours in a day, and I have to sleep for 8 of them, workout for 1, work for 8, and drive for 2. It doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for fun stuff.

I never wanted to make a DV, and only do it for times when I’m really busy, like right now and in November (NaNoWriMo), when I use my NaNoWriMo filter as my friends page and don’t use a Default View at all. I plan to remove the Default View in early October. Anyone I’m not reading next month is always welcome to post a comment if there’s something you really need me to know about.

Not a Grownup

So I had one of those classic “I’m not really a responsible adult” moments this morning.

I missed my carpool.

It’s our first day testing out carpooling together. And I blew it. Completely. At 8:20 I remembered I was supposed to pick him up– at 8 AM. In Santa Cruz. DAMN! The only thing I can say is that the alarm clock didn’t go off this morning, I feel like a truck hit me, and I FORGOT.

Yeah. Responsible I am not.

In better news, I ran 18 miles yesterday. Go me!
