July 2004: Book Reviews

Saturday, July 31st, 2004

This is an archive of my shorter book reviews and notes, which historically have been posted over at the 50 Book Challenge on LiveJournal, but which I’m starting to move over here. I’m posting them with altered date-stamps, but they might show up in my LiveJournal cross-post anyway. Bear with me, please.

Note: Many of these books also have full reviews available in the book review podcast (RSS).

Things I did today

Saturday, July 31st, 2004

I leied the entire company. I’m going to have such a rep!
I had an eye exam.
I drove home (this was probably not a great idea, but I did it anyway)
When I got home, I found that I had another $52 in donations (yay!!!) and a card from a sort-of-former friend who I’d sent a letter to (she was catching me up on her own travails, which are many and sad)
I stopped at the bank and picked up $150 in change for the yard sale tomorrow (charity yard sale for TNT– 909 Broadway in Santa Cruz; come by if you’re in the neighborhood!!!)
I came home and laid down in a dark room for a while.

My eyes are no longer dilated, which is good because I have to finish price-tagging the yard sale stuff.

Map Meme!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2004

Many of you have already done the LJMaps meme, but if you haven’t and you don’t mind having your general location known or knowable, please do consider subscribing to this meme, cause I find it fascinating. It looks like I could hit about 80% of my friends just by driving across the country in two straight lines.

I’m trying to get all my Livejournal friends’ locations plotted on a map - please add your location starting with this form.

Wharf to Wharf thoughts

Tuesday, July 27th, 2004

I posted my thoughts on the Wharf to Wharf here.

Sore.

Monday, July 26th, 2004

I’m so sore today after yesterday’s race! Yowsers! My ab muscles are dying, I swear– I didn’t even know they were working yesterday during the run, but boy, do I feel them today.

And today I’m doing my 12 miler, which will likely take 3 hours. Yikes. I brought my stuff to work, and plan on going after work to do the run– Ideally, I’d like to set up my water stands so I can pick up my water as I go and don’t have to carry it all the way. Either that, or do small loops (or out-and-backs) and just stop at my water place each time. The problem with that plan is that I’ll be tempted to stop before I’m done with the full 12 miles.

Party last night was fun, I felt. Lots of friends came by. Much food was had– we had just the right amount of food and drinks– a little more than people consumed, but not so much that we’ll be eating it for weeks.
