Oh, the humanity!

sent me a sympathy card today, as I lost all control over my work PC. Yes, that’s right; they installed WinXP on my machine today. mrph.
Of course, things are b0rked and not working yet (which means I’m not working yet), but I don’t really care at this point. I have decided to accept the fact that I will bring my laptop to work on a regular basis now for anything that I want to do that isn’t strictly work. Which is good– it’ll make me more productive. Right?
The new machine, in addition to preventing me from installing anything or running anything not pre-approved, also lacks floppy and CD-ROM drives. The floppy I can do without, but…. no CD-ROM means no backups, which is a BAD THING for my files. So I’m going to ask for a CD-R drive (writable– I don’t need one that’s re-writable) so I can make backups of data and, more importantly, *read* backups of data when I need to.
Anyway, gripe as I might, at the very least, the new machine is faster than the old one. So far. Today. And all that stuff. ![]()
Oh, yes. And the lack of a CD-ROM or floppy drive means there’s plenty of room for an EZ-Bake oven…..
