Books and Music

I finished listening to A Game of Thrones this morning (George R.R. Martin). Good fantasy novel based on the War of the Roses. Very political storyline, which is really satisfying. I enjoyed the novel and have downloaded the second in the series: A Clash of Kings. has read all the ones that are currently out, so I keep talking with her about them– I think it’s frustrating for her, though, since she knows what happens next (and thank you, for not spoiling that part that happens right after I talked to you last week– I know that was almost impossible, but I appreciate your discretion).

Also from audible this weekend (I went overboard on the $9.95 sale):
The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King (book 2 of The Dark Tower series)
Eregon by 14 year old Christopher Paolini
Arab and Jew by David K. Shipler
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (the June/July selection for )
The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty (who also reads audiobooks for recording)
The Callahan Chronicles by Spider Robinson on ’s recommendation.

It has come to my attention recently that my music collection is stuck in the latter part of the 20th century. I have much music from the 60’s and especially the 70’s and 80’s, some from the 90’s. I picked up a couple of lesser-known artists last year on the recommendation of a couple of friends, which is good.

But how’s this for a poll. Recommend an artist or album or even just a song from the last 5 years (1999-2004) that you like and think I would like. Something that, if I were over at your house and we were hanging out, you would say “Oh, you just have to hear this!” and run and get the CD or MP3 player or whatever so I could listen.

Thanks. I love you all.
