Bookstore things

Mini-poll on UserFriendly re: what folks like about bookstores. Yes, I will poll my LJ friends as well. Just you wait and see.

Yes, I will likely be posting bookstore-related things here in my main journal. If you don’t want to read about someone starting a new business, I won’t be offended if you skip those entries or drop me from your reading list, or whatever. I suspect it will take at least a year before I can open the doors. On the other hand, you will find that I talk very little about my actual job in this journal. That’s for several reasons, not the least of which is that I just don’t consider it appropriate to talk about my employer, good or bad, on the Internet. So I talk about my side jobs of writing fiction and the bookstore.

Question Meme

Answer the questions and add one of your own (it’s like a chain letter meme!)

1.If you were born the opposite sex, who would you be?

I would probably be much the same person, though perhaps with slightly more practical interest in baseball.

My first name would have been Daniel, unless my sister were a boy, too. And then my mother would have been named Patient #64201, because she really wanted girls and had no idea what to do with boys.

2. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A writer. An actress (I took acting lessons from age 7 to about 13). A vet. An astronaut. A mommy. I grew out of some of those.

3. You’ve just been in a horrible accident and you are in a coma. Would you let your family sign a DNR (do not resuscitate) or keep you alive with a slight chance that you may survive?

This is absurd. If I’m in a coma, I don’t “let” my family do anything. The fact is, I won’t have any choice at that point, so my family had better know what I want done in advance, or should make the decision responsibly for me.

Now ask me what I do if I have that decision-making power over someone else that I love. *There’s* a meaty question for ya!

4. If the country you’re living in now booted you out, where would you make your new home?

This is, sadly, not such a far stretch, you know. I would really rather live here, frankly. But, barring that, I’d like a mixture of warmth, freedom, and either English or French speakers, please.

5. What is one non-physical attribute or characteristic you could never do without?

My intellect.

6. What’s your favorite book/movie/album of all time? (pick one)

Oh, damn. Honestly, I have too many favorites of each. Let’s go with *one* of my favorite books: The Dispossessed by Ursula LeGuin. If you haven’t read it and you like science fiction (especially if you like dystopia novels), I strongly recommend it.

7. Who was your biggest influence/role model growing up?

My grandfather.

8. What is the most scariest thing you have ever had to do?

Oh, crap. I have no idea. I don’t think there’s much I’ve ever *had* to do in my life, but there are many things I did that were scary, but that I personally felt were important. Off the top of my head, I’d say flying to California with 5 pieces of luggage and my whole life ahead of me would be one of the more frightening and exhilerating at the same time.

9. What is the dumbest meme you have ever actually participated in?

One of those “which anime character are you” because I had NO IDEA who the characters were. Like, at all.

I need a Meme userpic.

Finis

I finished round 1 of editing on Eye for an Eye last night at Coffee Society with the nanos.

Time for a fresh hard copy and a new editing cycle. But not this week. I’m glad to have gotten it out of the way, but this week it’s time to work on the witches story.
