Fishy name

I am seriously considering throwing out all existing suggestions and naming him after one of my all-time favorite “people.”

Meh.

The Windows XP migration is nigh. I’m scheduled for a June 9th migration/install. Afterwards, my work computer will:
Run Windows XP.
Have no CD-ROM drive. (WTF?!?!?)
Have no Floppy drive.
Have a working USB drive.
Prevent me from changing simple variables like my desktop colors (because, obviously, I am a child).
Prevent me from installing software. ANY software.
Irritate the hell out of me.
Hopefully, work faster than the one I have.

It’s a mixed blessing. On the one hand, the CD-ROM drive issue is annoying and will ultimately result in me requisitioning a CD-R for backups. On the other hand, USB will finally work (USB and NT don’t mix), and I suppose it’s a good thing if my productivity goes up from lack of a decent web browser and LJ client.

Must remember to bring cookies for IT on the 9th. Always good to bribe IT guys.

New keyboard

The new keyboard is installed in Trinity. I am already finding it a bit hard, just because the delete key is where the left half of the spacebar is on a normal keyboard. Also, the shift key is awkward, and the preferred alternative is four fingers down. I’m not very practiced yet. However, I think the keyboard might be autocorrecting my text for me, which is unexpected.

Multi-key combinations, like alt-tab, are very difficult. I just don’t know how to do them at all, clearly.

Um, yeah. But getting the damned screws out was a piece of cake for the tech. I was so impressed.
