Pickup on Aisle 4
08-Apr-04
I picked up Hammer at about 10 AM and took him to John’s work. Poor baby. He’s all shaved and has a big incision on his neck and stuff. Yuck. The vet said no collar in the future, so I will have to find a different place to put his ID. He’s microchipped and wears a halter for being led, but apparently they want NO collar on him at all, ever again.
Got to work and discovered the network was down. It came back at 3:30– it’s been down all day. Whew.
Made a couple of origami turtles today while blowing off time waiting for the network. I don’t have time or energy to workout this afternoon, which is really a loss. Maybe I will do the 20 minute 1-mile walk with the Weight Watchers group at weigh-in. I could sure use it, even though it will mean cutting my time pretty close in terms of picking up John and Hammer and being back in Scotts Valley before 8 (for CSA veggies pickup). Or I can skip WI tonight and go pick them and the veggies up by 6. That would be schweet, though perhaps a little unrealistic.
In the TMI department, my bra feels like it’s made of the scratchy side of Velcro. I think it got pricklies in it from washing clothes after weedwhacking. Grrr.
I am supposed to weigh in today after work, but I will probably skip it so I can get the dog in time. WI tomorrow is at 9:30 AM; perhaps I can hit that one instead.
John has text messaged me three times today: 1) Hammer’s stool is “cola-like liquid” (eww. Thanks for sharing, babe!) 2) Hammer is asleep. (Well, okay.) 3) Hammer peed his bed. (again, thanks for sharing.)
<rant>It’s right up there with people telling me Hammer has farted. Guys? He’s a DOG. They do that. And they’re not even a little sorry, and neither am I. I know it reeks; you would too if you ate dog food every day. But it doesn’t need commentary from anyone else; if a human had done it you (maybe) would be polite enough to keep your big mouth shut about it. Sheesh. Get over yourself. </rant>
Anyway, I guess Hammer wet his bed again cause he was so out of it. Poor baby. We’re going to have to keep an eye on him tonight– I might wash his crate and bring it in for him to use tonight and during his recovery this week. Am calling the vet right now to see if he should have received antibiotics for his post-surgical care. I worry about infection, with his periodontal disease, but he just went off of antibiotics a week ago, so it would also be nice for his internal flora to get a chance to recuperate (I’m sure John would like it, anyway). The receptionist says that the surgeon doesn’t usually prescribe antibiotics for LP cases. I wonder why?
