April Fools Day

So, tomorrow for AF Day, I’m going to do something foolish, like bleed into a bag for 15 minutes.

Yep, that’s right. I’m giving blood tomorrow.

I’m also signing up for the bone marrow database, in case someone out there needs bone marrow and mine matches. Hey, you never know when you might save some poor sod’s life.

Anyway, this leads me to remind everyone on my Friends list: if you’re eligible to donate, please consider doing so soon. There’s no long-term risk to yourself, and you can save up to four lives with one donation.

Oh, and a recent change that I didn’t know about, at least here: piercings no longer defer you for a year unless there’s concern about whether the needles were sterilized. If you know the instruments used were sterilized, you can donate.

Next step

The surgeon strongly feels that the pneumonia risk is low, about 5%. He also says he’s had several LPs this month because of the weather warming up.

We’re going to try to schedule a cardiac ultrasound for sometime on Friday.

This still might not happen. Financially, it’s going to leave us seriously wounded. But we’re going to move forward one step at a time.

March 2004: Book Reviews

This is an archive of my shorter book reviews and notes, which historically have been posted over at the 50 Book Challenge on LiveJournal, but which I’m starting to move over here. I’m posting them with altered date-stamps, but they might show up in my LiveJournal cross-post anyway. Bear with me, please.

Note: Many of these books also have full reviews available in the book review podcast (RSS).
