Update on Hammer, dog “stuff”

Hammer has sprained his back knee.

Everyone: “Awwwww! Poor Doggie!!!

Okay, thank you. I am slightly amused by this– Dog, you are eleven years old. When you limp, it should be because you have arthritis, not because you “overdid it” frolicking at the dog park on Sunday. Act your age, please.

Yes, I’m a horrible dogmom for being amused by my dog’s discomfort. On the other hand, try to understand how incredibly relieved I am that this is just a “rest for three weeks” thing and not a “gradual decline” thing. Mind you, getting Hammer to *not run* for three weeks is a chore unto itself– it seems that as soon as he feels better he wants to gallivant around as much as possible.

I do, however, have to get him a ramp now, for getting into John’s Jeep. They run $99-189, depending largely on where you buy it, apparently (I’ve found the same one for $119 to $189 at different websites). We’ve known that was coming for a while now– John is checking the Santa Cruz PetSmart right now, and will call me when he gets to work. I’m going to check the Milpitas one if he didn’t find one, and order it online if this one is a bust.

Oh, and I’ve decided to call Doody Deeds and find out what they would charge for regular service (found it: $9/week for 1 dog). I’ve come to realize that my time is more valuable than shovelling poop in the backyard.

And for anyone who thinks I’m spoiled about this, please consider that, if you had a baby and could spend $10/week for someone else to change your baby’s diapers, you would pass that money over so fast, it’d leave a green streak.

Pets, hygiene, geocaching, editing

John wasn’t feeling well last night, so I made dinner; unfortunately, I forgot to clean up afterwards, so the kitchen is a disaster area. Again.

Allegro is hunting a bug. Last night he was hunting one that was outside the window– that was amusing to watch as he overshot his mark, fell on the kitty grass, dashed to the side, ran into his water bowl, sending it flying, and took off, very miffed, for the other room. We didn’t even bother to hide our laughter.

Hammer is limping, so he goes to the vet this morning for a check. It’s either a sprain (temporary) or arthritis (long-term care, with eventual decline). I never expected to love this dog this much.

I plucked my eyebrows this morning. Yet another way in which men get off scott-free while women must suffer. And yes, i must do this once in a while, or I end up with unibrow, which nobody wants to see, particularly not me.

I walked for just under 3 miles yesterday. Went back to the geocache after work (but I drove most of the way there this time) and picked it up after I’d read the clue. Go me!

I’ve done 10.25 hours of editing so far. Must edit today at lunch. I’m on page 62, though, which I guess is good. I would find it ideal to finish this weekend, and then move on to a more iterative revision process, in which I read through a second time, then type it in, and then go through it again, making sure the pieces are all where they need to be. Of course, I may end up needing to re-write and add so much, that I won’t be able to be close to finished this month, no matter how much time I spend on it.

Ah, well. Anyway– 10.25 hours means I’m behind, in the sense of needing to be much further along by now to make it to 50 hours in 30 days. But I’m not worried– I haven’t gotten my momentum up yet, really. Editing is such a different task from writing, and it’s not one I’m very good at or familiar with.
