Where is Stephanie?

I’m at Abouche, a cafe in Scotts Valley, having just finished drinking a latte and pointedly ignoring the Most Misbehaved Children in Scotts Valley. I swear, these curtain crawlers– gah! I realize that being a parent is difficult, but when your kids are being little shits in a public restaurant or cafe, it’s time to stop the caffeklatch with your buddy and go home– you’re not having any fun, your companion’s not having any fun, and everyone in the coffee shop is wishing death and damnation on your offspring.

I might note, however, that the mother was frustrated but trying. She just hit the lemons in the slot machine of child behavior– her kids are little shits, they probably always have been, they probably always will be. She’s dragging them around the cafe to get them to sit still and behave, and they’ve got big grins on their faces because this is FUN to make mommy lose her hair.

She also was pretty honest about her kids’ behavior– after banishing the second one to the car for the rest of her visit, she turned to her companion and said “They’re not going to make it to first grade– I can’t take them anywhere.”

Anyway, I’m here cause of bad road conditions– there was a diesel spill at the summit and an accident on Bear Creek Road, all of which meant backup from rubberneckers in my side of the road. I turned around at the summit and came back. Not feeling too hot today anyway, and I don’t like sitting in traffic for two hours to get to work– it makes it that much longer of a day for me.

I’ll be leaving soon and heading over the hill to work the second half of my day. I wish I could stay home, though. I really wish that I could telecommute. That would be so sweet.
