Day two: Las Vegas

Went to the show today. Whew– info-overload, for sure. Only got 1 swag– a deck of cards. Sigh. Not really all that interested in getting much crap to haul home.

After, I walked down to the Venetian (it’s about a mile and a half or so) to meet up with John, who was tired of the adult entertainment convention– he’s discovering that he’s actually an introvert. He wants to be an extrovert, but he’s just not. I should get him that book that and and all say is so good for introverts.

Anyway, we had lunch– Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant there in the Venetian. Very pricey. WAY TOO MUCH FOOD. That’s been the hallmark of this vacation– too much food, and no hotel minifridge to store it in.

He had an appointment at 3, so we parted ways for a bit. I was planning to hole up somewhere with some coffee and a book. But I got waylaid by Il Prato and bought a glass pen and two bottles of ink– one’s an iridescent (very faint) ink, the other is silver. Both gorgeous. Also: glass pen– cleaning it is a matter of windex. The pen is light green, kind of a peridot shade; I also bought a light green sealing wax kit with my initial. Very nice set– I want to use them right away, but of course the ink is in wax-sealed bottles, so I hesitate to open them till I get home.

We stopped and got ice cream after that, and then walked over to the Mirage to catch a cab– hoping, unsuccessfully, to get a shorter line. But, no– no short taxi lines in Vegas this week.

Our cab driver– oh, lordy. He’d just done a drop-off, and the guy’s fare was still on the meter- $15.20. The guys says “Normal fare starts at $3.00– I start you at tww-twenty. Subtract thirteen, okay?” John and I look at each other– uh, okay. We know better– the guy was scamming against the fare tax. Whatever.

Then, this guy drives us over to the Palace, taking the “carpool taxi” lane on the freeway. That would be the one to the right of all the other traffic. You know– the shoulder? He also tended to drive the way people who are driving in a video game– all over the place, right? We gave him credit for being a tax-evading, time-conscious free-thinker.

Anyway, we got back and had some downtime for a couple of hours, including some reading, a bath, teh sexx0r (*yay!*), and about 30 minutes of working on my cross-stitch project. I headed down to the tables at around 6 or 7, where I ended just $10 ahead, then at 8 I went up to the room to find John.

The room was empty. I called him on my way to the elevator. In a nice bit of kismet, he was in the elevator when it got to our floor. How cool is that?

So, dinner, and now back at the room, about to watch a movie. Tomorrow is maybe some geocaching, and more gambling– haven’t done enough, yet. Also, tomorrow is Saturday– our Wayne Brady tickets! Woo hoo!

OK, that’s all for now, folks. I’m not reading my friends page really, so please post comments if there’s anything happening in your life that I should know about. :D
