Sold a car
Just sold my minivan to my friend Inga. Have to get it smogged this week to transfer title on Friday or, if not then, next week.

what is ‘Smogged’?
I have read it in your other postings and in friends LJs in the US.

There’s a federal regulation for how dirty the air coming out of the car’s tailpipe (emissions) can be. Every 2 years, you have to have your car inspected to see how nasty it is. Older cars can be dirtier. Very old cars no longer have to pass the inspection.
The word “smog” is used in a couple of ways related to this. “I need to have my smog checked” means “I need to get the inspection for how dirty the car’s emissions are.” Over time, this has been shortened to “smogged.” You get a smog certificate when it passes, and many places give the inspection for free if the car doesn’t pass the inspection.
