Phone Posting, Userpics, etc.

I’ve been wanting a phone-post interface for LiveJournal for a long time, and it’s now available for paid users (and permanent users, of course). You’ll need a media player that supports the Ogg Vorbis format, but hopefully friendly individuals will come along and use the “transcribe” button after people post. I know that I will whenever I feel like it.

That said, here’s what I will be using phone posts for:

  • Creating a personal to-do reminder list when I’m driving in my car.
  • Posting a note to myself about something that I need to remember but I’m not able to post at the moment (like a word count total during NaNoWriMo, or when I’m in my car)
  • Updates on weight loss, exercise, etc., usually done when I finish a workout and am not immediately near a computer (I have trouble remembering numbers, but this would let me post them without forgetting).
  • Posts where I’m with someone and want to have them add something to my journal (rare, though)

Here’s what I won’t use phone posts for:

  • Drunk, rambling posts– I don’t call people when I’m drunk, and I’m not gonna call my journal when I’m drunk, either.
  • Posts that contain vital information that people will need to know about me. Actually, I would do this if an emergency takes me away from the computer or phone contact indefinitely, but I would only do it once, and I hope folks will transcribe such important notices promptly so I don’t have to.

I can’t say that I won’t phone-post anything interesting, because I don’t know what people consider to be interesting. Certainly, I don’t know what you all think is interesting about my journal. I will definitely be using this feature, though; I’m an extrovert and I love to talk to people. I can’t imagine that talking to my journal will be as exciting as talking to a real person, but everyone who reads my entries can be considered “a real person” that I’d be talking to anyway. I will, however, try to hold anything really urgent for things that are text-only, to spare those on dial-up or in office environments.

As for the userpics: I’m going to be re-doing my userpics soon. I think I want to hand-craft all my userpics (**all 15 of them!!!!*** new userpic limits for paid users). I have a lot of userpics that aren’t my original work, and I’m going to change that.

Um, that’s it for now. I’ve been at work since before 8 this morning. Should really get something productive done…. :P
Update: I figured out what was wrong with my posting-by-email from my cellphone. I’m a bozo. Anyway, I’ve fixed the problem and can now post via email from my phone. Why do you care? Well, if I’m away from the computer but can use the email on my phone, I can post an entry without making audio posts. So, for example, if an emergency happens, I’m more likely to let you all know by posting by email instead of audio, unless I’m actually driving or am unable to speak (in which case, frankly, I have more important things to worry about than updating my LiveJournal).
