This year, I think my pre-nano goals are to get the house ready for the Halloween party and make my costume, and throw the Halloween party.

I’ve done sufficient pre-planning for the novel, so I think I’ll be able to start writing on Nov. 1.

I do have a short story I’d like to write beforehand, but can always come back to it in a few months (which would be interesting, as it’s a story using the same characters; it just doesn’t fit the novel very well). It’s also something of a wish-fulfillment story; if you were a public defender defending a rapist who you were pretty sure had done it, how would you handle the case? In this case, the rapist is an alien with multiple penises, for whom rehabilitation is just not going to work. The idea I’ve toyed with is getting him released on the grounds that he never consented to being searched (for his alien biology), and therefore they can’t prove he’s an alien capable of the rape being charged (he looks human with his pants on). But then Sheila, as he’s being released, tells him to get off the planet or next time he shows up on her case list, she’s going to consent to a pants-off search, and she’ll make sure there’s only *one* penis left. Completely inappropriate for a public defender, but it would make me satisfied with the story. Oooo– she’s wicca; she could threaten him with a hex, if he believes in that, or if it works on this world (I haven’t decided if these things actually work– probably not).

Tonight is the Santa Cruz Wrimo meet-and-greet downtown. I’m also feeling kind of cruddy today, hoping the Pepto kicks in soon.
I’d also like to finish editing last year’s nano novel, but that might be too much to hope for. It’s in bad shape. I’ve marked up through Chapter 6 (about 1/3 of the way through), but now need to make so many changes, I’m not sure if the rest of the novel will be worth salvaging.
And there are three chapters I want to finish critiquing for OWWW and post my crits on them– that’ll fulfil my 6-crit newbie requirement, I hope. I think I can get Ch. 1 crit in today, and possibly Ch. 2 today or tomorrow.

Oh, and I need to get Trinity’s word processing capabilities working, dammit.

In the meantime, of course, there’s the LJ-related things I could do…. support, reviews, (I’m such a bad maintainer).

And, of course, I need to get some stuff done at work– but that’s going along a lot better, ever since I broke the block I had last week. Yay.
