One…. Two!

You know how kids in the same family always get sick at the same time?

Yeah.

Allegro had to go to the emergency vet last night because of crystals in his urine (which can cause blockage, which can kill him).

I’m so tired.

We had to confine him last night so he wouldn’t pee on the bed (or us, or the rest of the house– he was really going whereever he stopped moving, and every 5 minutes or so he’d be trying to pee, and getting a little bit out). Today, he needed to be confined to the bathroom so we can monitor how much urine he’s producing. Mind you, he’s probably having this because of stress from this week– I’m sure being confined all day isn’t stressful at all.

So, sure enough, while I’m moving the litter box and food into the bathroom, John takes Hammer out to put him in the van– and leaves the front door open.

Thus begins the merry chase, at 8:20 in the morning to catch the kitty.
First he was in the back yard.
Then he was in the front yard, running past Stephie.
Then he was in the crawlspace under the house.
Then Stephie yelled at John for letting him out in the first place.
And John felt bad and said he was retarded.
Then Stephie told John to get a flashlight and crawl under the house to get the cat.
Then the cat ran out from under the house (lucky John).
Then he was in the back yard again.
Then John wanted to go to the back yard to get him again, and Stephie said “Let’s close the crawlspace so he can’t get in or out.”
Then John chased the cat out of the backyard.
Having no crawlspace to hide in, the cat ran out to the driveway, where Stephie picked him up.
Then he was in the bathroom with the door shut.

Do you see why I’m so tired?

Oh, yeah– and Allegro is now on an antibiotic, in case there’s an infection on top of the crystals. Which means:
Hammer gets one tablet four times a day of a stomach pill, one Pepcid AC twice a day, and two cephalexin twice a day.
Allegro gets one-half tablet of amatryptaline once a day, and one prednisone twice a day for three days, then once a day for three days, then once every other day for three doses.

I keep screwing up Hammer’s fourth stomach pill dosage, since it happens at 2 AM– we’re changing him to every 5 hours, which should work better as we will all be awake when dosing him.

We have a chart to keep track of the medications. I make lots of charts.
