Tech savvy and BIG politics rant

I love being able to impress people with my uber-haxx0r skilz when I can use a one-line DOS command to generate an 82-page listing of all the Framemaker files on my hard drive, per request.

I have been reading a lot of fury on my friends’ page over things that Bush has said recently, particularly pertaining to gays and marriage.

Folks, Bush is an asshole, and always has been. Nothing he’s said recently changes that. Anyone who thinks he’s not an asshole is wrong. Plain and simple– you are wrong if you think he’s not a grade-A bonafide asshole. Deal with it– argue if you like, but I’m not listening to counterarguments today. This is one thing that is known and knowable– he’s an asshole.

If the Dems were in office, we’d have a balanced budget. We might still be at war, or at least we’d be working on domestic security in the face of the terrorism of 2001 (which, despite having niggling conspiracy theories in my mind, I do think we would have experienced some terrorist challenge– every president faces a terrorist scenario within 9 months of taking office), but we would have balanced the budget. California’s economy wouldn’t have stayed in a tailspin for nearly two years, and the US economy would be a whole hell of a lot better off in general.

But the Dems aren’t in office; the Republicans are. The Republicans who have a nice, long history of screwing over everyone who isn’t white, male, and/or wealthy. I’m always amazed when union members in small towns vote for Republicans. You like having a 40-hour work week? A minimum wage? Your kids in public school? I assure you, if those issues were up for debate today, the Republicans would ensure they would not pass. And they continually are, by the way, in more modern forms of shorter work weeks/telecommuter rights, standard-of-living wages, and school vouchers– a sneaky way to try to eliminate public school education altogether.

And now, by the way, these ASSSHOLES want to overthrow California’s democratically-elected governor. Now, I voted for Gray Davis, and I’m not ashamed of that, even though I don’t feel he has performed well this term. Who could? With no federal support, who could possibly perform well in California’s gutted economy?

But can we please end the cycle of “if you don’t win, whine and bitch about it until you do” that has been plaguing the U.S.? Every time a Democrat opens their mouth to complain about Bush, some Republican says “You lost– get over it,” and yet, here we are facing a recall election that was campaigned for solely by ONE Republican candidate: YOU LOST! GET OVER IT!

I urge every Californian to vote for the strongest Democratic candidate in the October 7th special election, please– I’ll be sure to post my pick in a couple of weeks, when it gets closer to the date. Be sure to register by mid-September if you haven’t registered since moving. Be sure to vote. PLEASE let the Republicans know that they cannot buy, cheat, or steal California, too. The Republicans do not care about California– you need only listen to their ranking member to know this. The Republicans only care about California if they can PUNISH us for not voting for their president. His vindictiveness is now become legendary, both in domestic policy and in foreign policy.

California’s energy crisis was and remains a nationwide crisis, but Bush didn’t do anything about it and blamed California, because his Enron buddies were raping our energy market to get filthy disgusting rich. In foreign policy, he barely finishes targeting one nation on his “axes of evil” without ANY proof of connection to the terrorist organizations that actually planned and executed the attack on the US, before starting to target another. Next on his hit list is undoubtably North Korea, which, you will please note, can hit the WEST COAST (California, again) with their nuclear missiles.

With the spectre of a nuclear war within my state borders looming, I find it really hard to get riled up over what Bush and the Pope think or say about gay marriages, okay? It’s important, yes, but gays will continue to get married, state-sanctioned or otherwise. Our culture will continue to change until it’s utterly inconceivable that two loving people should *not* be able to get married. Right now, though, I’m a little more concerned about the actual destructive force that’s guiding the White House, and not his stupid views on other peoples’ sex lives.

Practice

I practiced last night– once I was done with my 15 minutes-for-the-day, I decided to break out the Christmas tunes and give them a whirl.

I think I’m going to add these to the to-practice repertoire. Holiday tunes are so handy! The holidays are about the only time you can convince non-singers to sing something other than Happy Birthday. They’re great! The ultimate in folk music traditions, for sure.

I also ran the dishwasher again this morning and cleaned the Foreman grill– yay!

Tomorrow is Dulcimer Day– YAY!!! There’s a concert tonight with the instructors from Dulcimer Day tomorrow; Joh nand I are probably going to go.

Sunday, I am washing my car– some bird pooped on it last night (where’s the shotgun?), and I’m betting it’s going to get dusty tomorrow at Dulcimer Day anyway. Also, Sunday is “pick out and buy new carpet/flooring for the house” day! Be prepared for much griping about John’s resistance to my need to make the house more liveable!
