Going offline soon.

Sunday, August 31st, 2003

I’ll be taking down my main computer for about 48 hours soon. I’ll still have Trinity to play and talk on, so I won’t be completely gone (and , I will be able to do your review in the next 24 hours). But I won’t have access to my files and email archive.

Still left to pack up:
My desk.
My CDs
The small things on top of one of the bookshelves.

Hammer’s crate
The gaming bookshelf
The hall closets
The piano and piano bench
The top of the display case
The table next to the door
The little table next to the door (there are books on it to be recycled)
The piles of ebay things to photograph and list
The box to send to
The top of my dresser
The dresser drawers (take out and put in the garage)
The entertainment sytem in the den

The treadmill (just clear it– no moving required)

What’s amazing is that this is all just to have the carpet replaced. I don’t even want to think about what it would take to move!

Bookplates

Sunday, August 31st, 2003

I just used my next-to-last bookplates.

They have tigers on them and are apparently from the Sierra Club.

Anyone with a good bookplate source, please post it here. I use bookplates to remind people (often unsuccessfully) to return my books.

Anniversary

Saturday, August 30th, 2003

This is coming up, on Saturday, October 4th.

Which reminded me that it’s been 12 years since the rape.

Wowee.

I wonder what I should do this year? Completely forgetting is, by far, the best thing I’ve done yet on the anniversary.

Carving pumpkins with last year ties with doing the American Diabetes Association walk-a-thon in 1997 for second best thing I’ve done on the anniversary.

Letter to the DMV

Friday, August 29th, 2003

Cory James Shipley-Brown
Department of Motor Vehicles
P.O. Box 942869
Sacramento, CA 94269

Dear Mr. Shipley-Brown,

I recently requested a California Environmental License Plate with the configuration HY4LIFE. The configuration was rejected on the grounds that it may be considered offensive. I am writing to appeal this decision and ask that you grant this configuration.

The license plate in question is for a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid car. The back of the car, shown in the enclosed photo, clearly displays the “Hybrid” logo. Most drivers will see the license plate from behind, where this logo is displayed; it is unlikely that anyone could miss the connection between “HY” and “Hybrid.”

“HY4LIFE” is an indicator of my intention to drive hybrid or similarly low-emissions, alternate-fuel vehicles for the rest of my life. These cars are better for the environment and reduce the U.S. dependence on foreign oil sources. What better car to put a California environmental plate on?

I realize that on another car, this plate could be considered questionable, which is why I felt I should describe the car it is to be used on. Just as a license plate with “69” can only be assigned to a car made in 1969, I felt the context for this configuration was important in deciding whether it is appropriate or not.

Please reconsider your decision to turn down this license plate configuration.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Cottrell Bryant
