Practiced

I practiced tonight: Sheebeg Sheemore (O’Carolan tune), Jesu Joy, Minuet in D, and the very challenging Pachelbel’s Canon. I have no idea if the Canon is reachable for me or not– seems awfully not, right now. :P
Dulcimer Day is this Saturday! I don’t know if I’m going to the concert on Friday night as well– it could be a lot of fun! I’m hoping I can pick up a capo while I’m there– I think there are going to be a few tables of wares, and a capo that isn’t made out of a wooden block and a rubber-band would be nice (not that I have one of those, either).

Um, in other news….

Mom’s birthday was yesterday, and I finally spoke with her on the phone today. Yay! Happy Birthday, Mom!

Had another productive day, this time getting home at 8:30 instead of 10– Yay!

Dropped some things off at Goodwill. The list of things they won’t take is irritating, because the majority of my freebie stack is on that list. Annoying, really.

One item in my stack is a very nice silver goblet– it’s a great little piece because it’s an upside-down stag’s head for the base– makes an excellent vessel for a pagan. Since I’m not a pagan and the particular “god” who gave it to me turned out to be a fucking lunatic, I think I’d rather give it to someone who won’t ever use it in ritual, thanks. Even if it’s all hooey, negative vibes are not welcome in Circle. ;)
Working on Cass’ story on the laptop– very angsty. I need to work on the psychological bendiness of the piece; it has a completely different tone from the Cass/Kippen piece, even though it follows immediately after it, sort of a companion piece. Also, it reveals something amazing about Cass, and I want to hit that note “just right” and not lose it.

OK, that’s it for now. Good night.

Oh, yeah– and anyone thinking “Gee, she never writes anything of substance” needs to take a look at the early days of my journal; I rarely say anything of substance, people. I just kind of rambly until it’s stopping time.

Goodwill won’t take a bunch of your stuff? Whenever we drop stuff off there, we just put it in big bags and they take it. We could have a dead body in the bag, and they’d never know… they don’t check. Odd.

    how much for the goblet?

Goodwill won’t take: text books (despite the fact this is a college town), technical books (despite the fact we are 30 minutes from the Silicon Valley), or technology/computers/software (see above 2 items). They’ll take my used bras, but not my used hard drive– I just don’t get it. And they give me a fricking lecture every time I try to slip a little technical pamphlet into the mix.

So…. I continue to look for good places to get rid of obsolete software, CD-ROM drives that may or may not work, and textbooks and computer books. The text books are the easiest, as SJSU will take them, if I drop them off at the English department (for legal reasons, I can’t sell them– they’re instructor copies and are not to be sold).

SIGH. Anyway, yes– my car trunk slowly fills up with rejects from Goodwill. Yesterday they rejected 2 of the 4 bags I tried to drop off.

Ummm….. you’re not going to use it in ritual, right? How about $8+shipping. I’ll post a photo of it so you can decide if it’s worth it.

no, I probably won’t, but if I did I would be sure to re-dedicate it. As it stands, I’ve been known to drain charms (and sometimes people) without trying (although lately I’ve been trying to keep that in check).

    I await the photo :)

Hm, that’s really odd. The Goodwills here just take what you are willing to give, and if they can’t sell it, I assume they’ll just throw it out.

Have you tried giving the computer stuff to like a used computer resale shop thing? There’s a place around here called Geek Rescue, and they fix things cheap, so I imagine they’d be willing to take in old stuff. There also might be charities around that take stuff like that to give to families who can’t afford their own computer.

    ohhhhhhh….hard drives and CD-ROM drives.

Damn, I wish I had more money.

  10. mortaine wrote:

If you buy the goblet and pay for shipping anyway, you can have the CD-Rom drive (20x).

    Pictures:

The goblet should polish up really nicely with just a little silver polish– wouldn’t take much, as it was hardly ever used at all.

Only bit of damage is some tarnish corrosion inside the goblet, but it should be taken care of with a good silver polish (or just cream of tartar + lemon juice rigourously applied)
