I’ll be away from the internet for the rest of the day, first meeting lovely folks from the Seattle area, then at the actual scheduled part of the reunion activities (reception, dinner, etc.)
Hope everyone has a great day!

Thank you everyone who has told me that the SMTP server has to be the same (or accepting of) my ISP. I knew that already, actually– discovered it a few years ago when trying to use SMTP at home before John set it up to allow my outgoing mail.
I am using the hotel’s dialup, which does not offer SMTP services. John’s SMTP server allows password-authorized SMTP messages, but I obviously don’t have Mac OS X’s Mail application set up correctly to use it, and John can’t figure it out, either. It does seem to work when we set it up in Mozilla.
If it stumps John, then it’s probably some weird little thing that we could figure out if we had time. However, as I mentioned, there are three phone lines for a 41-room hotel; they don’t want you to stay online trying for too long.
I am able to send email now, by the way, by using my web mail client that my webhost provides. So, no problems there– that’s how I use email at home, too. I still cannot read LJ comments in that client, though– a failing with LiveJournal’s encoding type rather than my mail app.
OK, anyway– we went wine tasting this morning with John’s dad, and then took a tour of the local chainsaw artwork with his dad and uncles. The return trip involved a tour of local real estate, led by the man of honor himself (we’re here for a 50th anniversary), which, frankly, had me bored and car sick. It’s nothing against his family, but after about 10 minutes of discussing how much real estate costs on this edge of town, and how much it costs in Tennessee (where the old homestead is)…. well, how much more can you take, anyway?
Tomorrow’s plans will probably involve either meeting people in Clinton or meeting people near the ferry terminal on the mainland for a brunch-like food thing starting at about 10 AM. I am supposed to be back here by 2:00 or so, which is why it’s got to be a morning shindig. I ask for near the ferry so I don’t have to bring the car with me after all. Apparently, I can expect a 2-3 hour wait to get on the ferry with the car, or I can get on within 30 minutes on foot– given that, I’ll take hoof traffic, thanks. If we meet in Clinton, you good people (Karl, Melissa, Jesse, and Magic-Marker, who needs to tell me a real name, ahem) would need to take the ferry, but if you go as a passenger, it’s only about $5. I am happy to cross over– does anyone know of some good places to hang out near the ferry crossing?
I have a phone # for Karl & Melissa. Jess: can you call me, IM me, or email me with your # sometime tonight? I’ll round everyone up and call everyone by about 9:00 tonight.
Whee! This will be fun!
