There was a car accident 3 cars in front of me on my drive to work this morning. Someone ran into the center divider. There was a lot of smoke/dust spitting up, and I just tried to brake slowly enough so the car behind me wouldn’t run into me, and fast enough so I wouldn’t run into the car ahead– thus avoiding a chain reaction. It was very quiet– perhaps because I had the dulcimer music playing inside the car?

When I reached the site, the car had immediately gone over to the right shoulder (I have no idea how they cut across 4 lanes of heavy traffic so quickly), but there was still debris in the left lane. Which I promptly ran over– and I need to remember to go out and check my tires to make sure there were no punctures.

I did not stop to help. Three people passed me on their cell phones, already reporting the accident to various agencies, and when I passed, the driver and passenger were out of the car already, walking around, and under the supervision of another good samaritan who had stopped. The airbag definitely had deployed.

Anyway, so that was my excitement for the morning. It was, all in all, not a big adrenaline rush, either– I was remarkably calm through the whole thing, really. Not unlike watching the car flip over in the other lane of traffic that time (about a year ago, I think)– that was just bizarre and didn’t scare me until later, when I realized it could almost as easily have ended up landing in my lane of traffic.

I got through the steamy sex part of the short story I’m writing– somehow I managed to do so without jumping my husband, probably because he was whining at me for writing in bed and keeping him awake (:P). “Short” is a loose definition now; it’s at 20 pages and still climbing. , I hope you like long, drawn out stories! All that’s left to write is the actual break-up scene, now, and perhaps some sort of denoument. Then a quick edit before sending it to Tenshi for review (the point of view character belongs to her).

This story is, of course, good practice for the upcoming erotic novel I plan to write in November.
